Don Sterhan accepted the position of President & C.E.O. of Mountain Plains Equity Group, Inc. (MPEG) in August of 2003. MPEG was originally created to provide technical assistance and equity capital for developers interested in building low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) projects in the rural areas of Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota.  During Don’s tenure as President and C.E.O., MPEG has not only achieved its original goal, but has further expanded into the states of Colorado, South Dakota, and Alaska. 

Prior to joining MPEG, Don was involved in the planning, development and financing of business projects in Montana.  As an owner and operator of a private consulting firm, Don’s past experience and business interests include resort and commercial real estate development, natural resource development projects, financial services, and strategic planning. 

In addition to his career responsibilities, Don is actively involved with various professional and civic organizations, including:

• Board Member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
• Chairman of Environment & Energy Committee, U.S Chamber of Commerce
• Board Member of the National Association of State & Local Equity Funds (NASLEF)
• Member of the National Advisory Council of Rocky Mountain College
• Past Chairman of the Montana Chamber of Commerce
• Past President of the Montana Chamber Foundation
• Past Member of the Montana Lottery Commission
• Past Member of the Oversight Committee for the Montana Family Education Savings Program
• Past Member of the Billings Library Foundation Board
• Appointed by the President in 1995 to the White House Conference on Small Business

Don is originally from Glendive, Montana, although he was raised primarily in the Flathead Valley of western Montana.  Don attended Columbia Falls High School and graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
